Everyone who is someone has a car, and now a car is a necessity. Everyone has a radio, it might not be one that sits on a table, but in a car. Advertizing is similar in the way that everyone wants something that a "doctor" says is good for you or will benefit you in some way.
How is the past different from the present? The past is different in ways that things have advanced and prospered. There is more than just a couple types of automobiles, there are hundreds. The movies and radios can be heard all over the world and we can even get movies from other countries now.
What can we learn from the past? We can learn that people make mistakes and just because everyone is doing something or buying something that it is in our best interest to buy and have it.
